What is the Warm Home Discount Scheme?
In previous years, the Warm Home Discount scheme (WHDS) has been offered to help with the energy bills of those who needed it most in England, Scotland and Wales.
Will the scheme be available in 2022/23, like it has been in previous years?
The government is in the process of making changes to the Warm Home Discount scheme for Winter 2022/2023. We don’t know the final details of the changes yet, but as soon as we do, we’ll update our website with more information.
Who sets the discount amount and decides who gets it?
The scheme was introduced by the government in April 2011. In recent years, the government has set the discount amount at £140 (inclusive of VAT). It directed energy suppliers to apply this discount to customers energy accounts or to supply the same amount in credit vouchers for prepayment customers. The government has also decided which group of customers must receive the discount, as well as the number of additional customers that should have an opportunity to receive it.
Who funds the discount?
Although the government sets the amount of the discount, the payment is funded by the energy suppliers themselves.
