Fun Easter Traditions You Should Try This Year

At Nabuh Energy, we love holidays, whether it’s seeing everyone we love on Valentine's Day or an surprising all our favourite mums on Mother's Day. So, of course, we could not pass up the opportunity to celebrate Easter is every way we could.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of the Easter holidays? Yes, we know exactly what you’re thinking. It’s Chocolate, isn’t it?

But there’s only so much chocolate we can enjoy during all those days off. Yes, we mean that - you might think that you can handle it all, but we all know that you’ll easily give up after five eggs. And that’s if you can manage even that!

So, once you get over the stomach ache and sleep it all off, how else can you celebrate Easter? Some families give each other presents, some cook a big meal.. but, unlike Christmas, there aren’t any set traditions that most houses follow.

However, don’t let that make you think that Easter traditions aren’t a big thing! We’re about to tell you all the different fun traditions families have in the UK, but also around the globe. You never know, some of these might give you the inspiration that you need to start your own.

So what can you do during Easter? We’ve put together a great list of traditions, activities and events that will get you bouncing up with excitement like you’re an Easter bunny.

Here's 7 fun traditions to inspire your Easter weekend

Easter Dancing

Did you know that Britain turns to dancing around Easter time? ‘Morris’ dancing, which is traditional folk dancing takes place at Easter time around Britain. It’s a symbol for welcoming spring and new life and starting over after winter. It could also get you in the mood for the upcoming warmer months. Morris dancing can be quite complicated, but it’s worth having a look if there’s anywhere you can and check it out! But if you can’t, why not use it as inspiration for your own traditions at home? See if you can learn some new dance moves this year.

Who said that countdowns are just for summer holidays and Christmas? It might be a little late this year, but next year you can get just as creative with your countdowns as you do with your advent calendars.

Have a small chocolate egg to eat each day or get plastic eggs and fill them with activities. This could easily be made kid friendly or adapted more towards adults, so feel free to think outside the box!

The Easter Basket

In Poland, families put together and decorate a basket to be then filled with food like cheese, sausages, painted eggs, cupcakes, bread and even salt. These are then taken to be blessed and eaten for a Sunday breakfast. Could you use this to inspire your own traditions?

You could put together a basket of your family’s favourite food, or get everyone to put in one thing they like the most to be then shared with the rest of the family.

There is so much more you can do with an Easter basket.

Create a hamper for the whole household and fill it with treats and games to keep you all busy this weekend.

Or instead, you could create personal baskets for everyone in the family. Feeling competitive? Get everyone to create their own baskets instead and then present them all on this Sunday once they are finished.

Yes, it matters what’s inside, but don’t forget about the decorations. Ribbons, flowers, crafts and even toys could make your basket stand out!

Egg Hunting

We all know about Easter egg hunts, especially here in the UK, but that doesn’t mean your family’s hunt can’t be special! It’s just another activity to get creative with. You can have a look for Easter Egg Hunt events in your location, but you could also organise your own and even get the whole neighbourhood involved. If you want something more exciting, you can create a treasure map or riddles to help the kids find the eggs.

Sprinkle The Winter Away

Some European countries, such as Hungary, have a tradition of sprinkling - pouring water over one another around Easter time. If it’s warm enough, this could turn into one big crazy water fight for the whole family!

You could take inspiration and get some water guns or just skip all that and simply go swimming! Some families spend the Easter weekend away on dips in the pool and water sports, but just a good visit to the swimming pool can be fun and memorable for everyone. Either way, a water battle sounds perfect!

Turn into detectives

It’s been rumoured that Norway has big love for crime novels and films around the Easter time, and everyone dedicates their time to becoming detectives for the weekend. Whether it's actually that popular or not, why not take some inspiration and have your own detective or murder mystery party? If that’s too much organising for you, then even a good old investigative board game could also make your weekend! Tip: connect detective mysteries with an Easter egg hunt and you’ve got yourself a great annual Easter tradition for the family.

Egg Games

In the U.S., egg rolling is a popular  game amongst families at Easter time. But why end at just that? If you’re going to start competitive games, why not host a whole family tournament and try your skills at everything, from table tennis to dodge ball in the garden. Want to make it more Easter themed? Try and change balls in your games to eggs. Maybe dodge ball might not be the greatest idea, unless you want to get very sticky, but try playing catch without destroying your egg! You could keep note of the score, and the winner at the end of the day will get themselves a very special Easter egg.

One of the greatest things about Easter is that, although there is so much to do, there’s much less pressure on the family to do certain things (unlike at Christmas). This means that you can focus less on what you should be doing and more on just enjoying your time with the people that you love!

That’s also why we’re running an Easter giveaway on our Facebook page, to offer someone the chance to get a meal and drinks for FOUR people. Thee’s no better excuse to finally spend some time together, whether it’s with your old friends or close family. We’d like to encourage you to make some memories this Easter!

Follow this link to enter the Facebook giveaway - the winner will be announced on Easter Sunday!

We wish you all a happy and eggs-ellent Easter, from the whole team at Nabuh Energy.

How To Spend Valentine’s Day As a Family

Valentine’s Day is pretty much around the corner now, but many of us brush it off, especially if we’re focused on our families. We think romance, dating and roses when Valentine’s comes to mind, and sometimes that’s not an option.

Other times, you might not even be interested in it! It often is advertised as a romantic day for ‘the two of you’ - a candle-lit dinner, romantic gifts or even a night away together. But, the truth is, we often forget what it truly is about: celebrating love.

Why does Valentine's Day matter?

As the Energy company with a big heart, we’d like to change the way you think about Valentine’s Day. 14th of February is a day that reminds us to spend more time on showing people that we love them - whether it’s your best friend, your children or your husband of 20 years. Of course, you love your family and friends all year around. So you ask yourself, why does today matter? The truth is that very often we get caught up in our lives and we don’t pay attention to those little, or actually, BIG important things. Even when we say those three words at the end of each night, we might forget to actually celebrate the love we have in our lives.

Children very often anticipate Valentine’s Day. Schools will be putting on events and heart filled adverts will catch their eyes, so they’ll be filled with excitement.

This is an amazing chance to take the time out, put the effort in and spread a little love around the house. Who says you need one Valentine? Let everyone you love be yours.

This is why we’ve put together a list of fun and love-filled ways of spending Valentine’s Day as a family. Whether you want to catch up with your siblings, visit the parents or have a night in with your kids, you won’t be short of things to do. Maybe this year is the year you start new traditions?

How to spend Valentine's Day as a family?

  • Valentine’s themed food

Fill your meals and snacks with love! You could start the day off with heart shaped toast or pancakes, pack a love themed lunch or altogether enjoy a candle lit evening meal. Even better, get the family together and do some Valentine’s Day cooking or baking. The possibilities are endless! You can get creative and think of different food that can be turned into hearts or look up some videos for inspiration.

  • Valentine’s crafts

Just like with food, you can get creative with decorations. Have a day of different arts and crafts projects and put together things you can decorate the house with. Not only will you have a home filled with love, you will have a fun day that everyone will enjoy. You can also get everyone to make Valentine’s cards or gifts for each other and then exchange them in the end.

This is definitely great to get the kids to be creative, but don’t shy away from it as an adult-only family. Getting crafty can be very therapeutic and you’ll be surprised how much fun you all could have.

  • Do what you love

Make it not just about who you love but also what you love. Is there something you all love doing, like everyone’s favourite board game, film or place? If there isn’t that one thing you can all agree on, try this instead:

Everyone should make a list of things they love to do the most. Then share them with each other and schedule the day to make sure you do at least one thing from each person’s list. That way you know the whole family is feeling the love and no one’s being left out!

  • Me-time for the whole family

You could take this time to each focus on loving yourself! Organise a family pamper day, with face masks, massages and films or maybe agree to all have a sofa day and just re-charge the batteries. It's just as important to show love for yourself as it is for others - this is also something that you could remind your kids! It's never a bad time to learn to truly look after yourself, mentally and physically.

  • Random acts of kindness

This Valentine's Day, why don't you really spread the love? It's a great chance to truly show how much you love and care about other people and the world around us. You could all plan to do a volunteering day or organise a fundraising activity. You could also set a challenge for the whole family to each do at least one random act of kindness - whether it's visiting someone who's alone, carrying someone's shopping or surprising them with something they love.

  • Gift your kindness

Why don't you all take part in giving - whether it's your time, effort or company. By this, of course, I mean creating gift vouchers for one another! Through handmade gift vouchers, you can all give someone something that can't be bought. The vouchers could be to take up someone else's chore, to spend the day with them or maybe agree to watch that film you've always said no to. This way you can get creative, spread the love and show that you care about each other.

Hopefully, these ideas will work great for your family - they should give you a special and memorable way to spend this day together. These can also work as a starting point to inspire your brainstorm, if you want your family do something even more unique. Don't forget to keep in mind that Valentine's Day isn't just about romance, but about taking that time out of your life to celebrate the love we share.

We wish you a very happy and love-filled Valentine's Day, from the whole team at Nabuh Energy!
